Franklin & Marshall College
Lancaster, Pennsylvania

SMS collaborated with R. M. Kliment & Frances Halsband Architects to create an environment to suit the needs of the Theatre, Dance & Film Department at Franklin & Marshall College, in the Roschel Performing Arts Center.

The Center includes a newly constructed theatre building that connects to the former college swimming pool, which has been adapted to dance rehearsal studios. The interior walls use full windows, creating an uplifting environment filled with natural light.

The new student-friendly theatre building includes a main stage theatre with 300 seats, backstage support space, and scenery and costume shops. The small thrust stage and orchestra pit provide flexible accommodation for musicians and actors. Catwalks for lighting are safely accessible above the house seating and stage area, and a scene shop is directly behind the stage.
