John F. Kennedy Center Family Theatre
Washington, DC

Bringing young people to the performing arts has long been one of the most important missions of the Kennedy Center. To do so required a theatre with a small seating capacity in the proscenium format. The new Family Theatre design follows that format with a proscenium arch and a house curtain. An extended apron, forward of the curtain line, accommodates lecture or film uses without needing to move or remove settings associated with the children’s shows.
