Temple Emanu-El
New York, New York

Sachs Morgan Studio was hired to provide Architectural Lighting for Temple Emanu-El, the largest Jewish house of worship in the world. It is an historic building constructed in 1930 on the site of the former home of John Jacob Astor. Our charge was to illuminate the space in a manner that honors the historic attributes of the building. The physical space was dark and the exquisite polychrome ceiling and Gustavian tile could not be seen. The owner and architect had a strong resolve that no foreign objects be added. There was little room for change, and the expectation of dramatic results. Our design illuminates the space, highlights the historic features, and provides lighting for modern day use.
